Do you support a Recall of the Graham Government

Do you support a referendum on the NB Power deal

A creative thought

i have a wild idea

i need a list of people one for EVERY RIDING not just the ones run by liberals who would put their name on a list

get a petition of a large number of names and basically say to all sitting MLA's your fired AS OF NOW and we are your replacements

i will lead the effort and take riding of MONCTON NORTH

additional messes

i wonder if in the process of all of this mess with the NBPower sale and the interesting info coming out of the Montreal gazette today we may have missed another slimeball trick from the Liberals

they have announced today the privatization of yet another crown corporation
http://timestranscript.canadaeast.com/news/article/949856
they are now privatizing our community colleges
the board of directors will include political appointees
another dumping ground for political favorites and another group capable of damaging another section of our resources because people with no concept of what they are doing are going to be put in to do the governments bidding while the government can say they are not involved

to avoid this mess in the future

to avoid the mess caused by this government in the future i have an idea

it is a combination of MMP and direct election

direct election:

premier is chosen by all candidates in a direct vote for premier the other party leaders will sit in opposition as party leaders as long as they achieve a 5% vote share

MMP

ridings are grouped into 8s with 5 seats chosen by popular vote and the remaining three apportioned by percentages to balance as close to actual voting percentages as possible

the actual formula is complex and i can discuss it if you wish but it is not a short setup

A few questions i have

All these companies that need this deal to stay competitive. I wonder just how many of them are on the corporate welfare rolls year after year after year

I am not one to ignore job losses however you do have to question whether specific individual companies need all the handouts

looked at from a different perspective if there are 15 companies in the province doing the same thing and 5 of them folded. all the contracts held by those 5 companies would be spread between the remaining 10 depending on who bids on what and who gets what contracts.

those companies would have to pick up at least some employees to get the job done meaning job loss would not be total

more importantly the 10 companies left would function more efficiently

now look at the overall picture

in this province there are many surplus companies or businesses who are glutted in certain areas without a sufficient customer base to support them, if some of them closed or consolidated the increase in revenue would mean less corporate welfare

it would also mean that when a new business looks at this province they no longer see a bunch of companies who can barely make ends meet and it would make this province look more appealing

artificially dropping industries rates does nothing but extend further this provinces corporate welfare status

Selling NB Power

from myles higgins on the NO to Sale of NB Power facebook group

history of contact with jack keir

I will be quite serious here

I am serious about coming up with an alternative

if you are willing to look at the alternatives work with me and I can make this work for everyone in NB including you

i would need to get my hands on a lot of paperwork that is not available to the general public to show sufficient cuts to make it break even

and while i dont give industry quite what they are after i do give the households more then they were getting

and i give both more then they are getting currently

quick math says industry would be getting 2/3 of what they want which is probably enough to increase profit margins extensively in some and break even likely in the rest

i also have a slightly different idea to improve revenue's as most homes could conceivable generate sufficient energy for their own use

I would therefore rent out home units that could offer this power (cheaper rental then buying the power) and use what excess that they produce as well as the reduced drain on our generating capacity to sell to other markets

if we could get sufficient cheaper energy then we could conceivably improve profit levels

add this to looking for ways to improve the cost of windpower and we could be far ahead

Isn't as good as current deal. And the solutions you provided don't add up to your rate decreases?

my plan drops industry and household rates by 15% for a minimum of 3 years with max 3% increase after that unless EUB approves

so it does improve present situations

It is about the cost. Industry are closing down, people can't afford the rates and under your scenario that continues and I can't stand by and let that happen. It makes no sense

it is not all about the cost Mr Keir

simply from the perspective that most people in this province would gladly pay a little more for this to remain in NB government hands

this suggestion i am offering will give them an improved rate as well as an improved rate to industry making everyone happy

as far as the NFLD deal goes as long as we make some profit over the mortgage for the line then we are ahead

basically I could offer you the ability to get most of what you would get from quebec and still get it while you are in charge

Carl

This isn't about running nb power more efficiently. Its about the cost of generating a kilowatt of electricity at about 8.9 cents vs 7.35 cents. Its that simple. Don't get me wrong, we should strive for the efficiencies you suggest. I would think David Hay would tell you they have done that. With respect to transmission partnerships with Atlantic canada, that can and will be done with this new agreement but I want you to understand that wouldn't begin to pay down debt or mitigate future risks at mactaquac or point lepreau. Laws stipulate that we cannot charge nfld anymore to get on our transmission lines then we charge ourselves. So if we charge him more our electricity rates go up.

lets look at simple straight cuts

in exec and board salaries alone you are looking at 1M savings per year

also talk directly to Mr Williams about building a dedicated line for NFLD use to US
i believe that even NS wants in on that deal

you can with those two deals there and a bit of planning create a good income off those two lines and reduce damage done by cuts

look closely at remerging all 5 components of NB POWER as the split is forcing duplication of services that could save easy couple of million a year

improvements on the hydro end of the grid could help also as well as whatever capacity improvements the lepreau refit gives us

there are various other touches that could be done to save a bit or improve efficiency

Great ideas but you don't tell me how all of a sudden you can do any of this with the current generation mix in NB. I appreciate you sacrificing yourself to take half his salary to do it however.

ok Mr Keir lets look at the updated plan based on our conversations and my best extrapolations of what i could make work

1/ make me ceo of NB Power at half Hay's salary

2/ absolutely no political interference i am responsible for all hiring/firing and answer directly to the minister of energy and the premier (no board of directors)

3/ no dumping of political appointees in NB power exec positions

4/ a lab for developing alternative solutions to oil/gas/coal/nuclear with rights to all projects belonging to the developers

5/ NB power is not a cash cow. all profits will go to upgrade systems and/or development of new projects as well as paying down the NB power debt load

6/ all bonuses will be tied to a combination of maintaining rates at present levels/or rate reductions and profitability of NB power

7/ all rates will reduce by 15% and be frozen for 3 years

8/ present rules of anything over 3% increase still must be presented to EUB
